This is a set of two large individual size Dolsot Bowls by Spiceberry Home – Granite Stone Bowl used for Korean Cooking and Recipes especially Rice Bibimbap. Included are thick wood trivets, flame finished so that the hot bowl can be placed on the table. A color instruction sheet is also enclosed, detailing seasoning and care, as well as your first bibimbap recipe.

What is Bibimbap?

Dolsot Bibimbap (dolsot meaning “stone pot”), is served in a very hot stone bowl in which a raw egg is cooked against the sides of the bowl. The bowl is so hot that anything that touches it sizzles for minutes. Before the rice is placed in the bowl, the bottom is coated with sesame oil, making the layer of the rice touching the bowl golden brown and crisp.  These bowls are individual size bowls, about 4 pounds each, 7-1/4 Inches across on top (18cm), and have a capacity to the brim of 32-ounces.  Keep in mind that these bowls are made of natural stone. Variations and inclusions in the stone should be considered normal, and are not defects. The stone originates from a single quarry, and has been tested for food safety.

Bowls are heated up on the stovetop then lightly oiled.  Next, place the steamed rice and “goodies” into the hot bowl and return to the stove.  Hint: Preheat the bowls in the oven for more even heating and move carefully to the stovetop.  This will also ensure the bowls are ready to go when you are.

How to Season your bowls
Seasoning is simple, and very similar to seasoning cast iron, with an initial wash and scrub followed by an oven drying.  The bowl is then lightly oiled and returned to the oven.  As with cast iron, taking me to season correctly makes the bowl perform better and ensure that is is easy to clean and maintain.  See instuctions for more details.
